Name: Joe Pammen

Age: 16 years old

Programme: Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery

Pathway: Construction

Joe Pammen, aged Sixteen had tried classroom qualifications but had found that they did not suit his style of learning. After finishing at Basildon Upper Academy Joe decided that he would like to learn a trade instead. This would suit his hands-on style of learning but also provide him with future life skills.

After discussing the options with his family, he identified that he would like to work in Construction as he had always been interested in Architecture. From here, Joe attended an open evening at Prospects College to learn more about what the college offered for him.

Initially Joe was interested in a Construction Maintenance Operations (CMO) course elsewhere. Despite this Prospects College offered him a place on the Level 1 Carpentry & Joinery. After a short period of consideration Joe decided instead of taking up the place on the CMO course he would rather study at Prospects due to its wide range of resources and friendly tutors.

Now Joe is settled in and working well to achieving his Level 1 qualification. He feels that the hands-on work is the learning style for him and that he can finally achieve his potential. On top of this he now plans to continue onto either a Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry or a Level 2 Apprenticeship in either Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery.
